1501.10 LIFE SAFETY CODE AMENDMENT; NEW APARTMENT BUILDINGS.

   (a)   Section 18-1.1.2 of the Life Safety Code being Volume 9 of the National Fire Codes (NFPA 101-1981), is hereby amended to read as follows:

18-1.1.2 Compliance With Option Required.

All new buildings classified as apartment buildings by 18-1.3.1 shall conform to the provisions of this chapter, and shall meet the requirements of one of the following options (see Table 18-1):

Option 1:   Buildings without fire suppression or detection system (this option is selectable only when each and every dwelling unit has its own independent exit direct to grade, with the exit discharge to the outside);

Option 2:   Building provided with a complete automatic fire detection and notification system;

Option 3:   Buildings provided with automatic sprinkler protection in selected areas;

Option 4:   Buildings protected throughout by an approved automatic sprinkler system.

   (b)   Former Section 18-1.1.2 of the Life Safety Code is hereby repealed.
