§ 35.01 CREATION AND PURPOSES OF DEPARTMENT.

   (A)   Creation and composition. There is hereby created a Police Department of the village. The Police Department shall consist of a Chief of Police and such other police officers and employees as shall from time to time be determined as necessary by the Corporate Authorities.

   (B)   Purposes and functions. The purpose and functions of the Police Department shall include:

      (1)   To suppress crime;

      (2)   To protect life and property;

      (3)   To preserve law and order;

      (4)   To enforce the laws of the United States of America, the State of Illinois and the ordinances of the village;

      (5)   To detect and apprehend criminal and traffic offenders;

      (6)   To recover stolen property, and

      (7)   Such other duties and responsibilities as may from time to time be imposed by the Corporate Authorities and the Chief of Police.
