(A) The following are mandatory qualifications for the position of Chief of Police of the village:
(1) The individual shall be at least 25 years of age;
(2) The individual must possess a high school diploma or an equivalent high school education;
(3) The individual must be a person of good moral character and not an habitual drunkard, drug user or seller, gambler or a person who has been convicted of a felony or crime involving moral turpitude;
(4) The individual must submit his or her fingerprints to the Illinois Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for any possible criminal record;
(5) The individual must be in good physical health;
(6) The individual must be certified by the Illinois Local Government Law Enforcement Officers Training Board attesting to the successful completion of the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course;
(7) The individual must have successfully completed a 24-hour course of training in the use of a suitable type of firearm approved by the Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officers Training Board;
(8) The individual must possess a valid State of Illinois driver's license; and
(9) Such other qualifications as may be mandated by law or prescribed by the Corporate Authorities.
(B) The following are discretionary qualifications for the position of Chief of Police of the village:
(1) The successful completion of advance police training such as, but not limited to, law enforcement studies at an accredited college or university;
(2) The successful completion of any physical agility, psychological, polygraph, credit and background check, and written, oral or medical tests as may be prescribed for an applicant by the Corporate Authorities;
(3) Significant police supervisory experience;
(4) Knowledge of financing, budgeting and funding; and
(5) Such other qualifications as may be prescribed by the Corporate Authorities.
