§ 93.01 OUTDOOR BURNING PROHIBITED; EXCEPTIONS.
   Outdoor burning is prohibited within the village limits, subject to the following exceptions and requirements:
   (A)   Grills and recreation fires.
      (1)   Definitions. As used in this section:
         GRILLS AND RECREATIONAL FIRES. An outdoor fire that does not use leaves or vegetative matter for fuel, used for the purposes of cooking or warming, such as barbeque grills, outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, and other cooking appliances.
         FIRE PIT. A pit dug into the ground or a freestanding metal or earthen vessel, in which a contained outdoor fire is made.
      (2)   The use of grills and recreational fires is permitted.
   (B)   Landscape waste.
      (1)   Definitions. As used in this section:
         LANDSCAPE WASTE. Leaves, grass, tree limbs, shrubbery cutting, and other materials accumulated as the result of the care of lawns, shrubbery, vines, and trees.
      (2)   Burning of landscape waste shall be permitted only on the site where the waste is generated, and such burning shall be at least 50 feet from any structure or vehicle.
      (3)   Burning of landscape waste on public property is prohibited.
      (4)   Landscape waste used for burning shall be primarily dry. The burning of excessively wet landscape waste is prohibited.
   (C)   Bonfires.
      (1)   Definition. As used in this section:
         BONFIRE. An outdoor fire for recreational or ceremonial purposes larger than 2' x 2' x 2', but not larger than 5' x 5' x 5'.
      (2)   Bonfires are permitted subject to the following limitations:
         (a)   Fuel for the bonfire must be dry, seasoned firewood.
         (b)   Burning shall be at least 50 feet from any structure or vehicle.
         (c)   Burning shall not occur on public property.
         (d)   Burning shall not be used for waste disposal purposes.
   (D)   Requirements for all permitted fires.
      (1)   All fires shall be constantly attended until such fire is extinguished. The person attending the fire shall be equipped with a hose connected to a water supply, or other fire extinguishing equipment, suitable to extinguish the fire.
      (2)   No burning shall obstruct the visibility on public streets, sidewalks, roadways, railroad tracks, or airfields.
      (3)   No burning shall occur when the wind speed exceeds ten miles per hour. Wind speed shall be based on the National Weather Service’s reported wind speed.
