Fire lanes shall be required for all structures, except residential structures of four dwelling units or less, constructed after September 1, 1978, in accordance with the following specifications:
Fire lanes shall be:
A. To within one hundred fifty feet of an entrance to the interior or to a point as approved by the fire chief for buildings two stories or less in height;
B. To within fifty feet of an entrance to the interior or to a point as approved by the fire chief for buildings three stories or more in height;
C. Be a minimum of sixteen feet in width and to have vehicle passing points twenty-five feet in width and of length and interval as designated by the fire chief;
D. Surfaced to support maximum weight of fire apparatus; surfacing may be concrete, asphaltic concrete, brick, stone, but not necessarily limited to such materials, as approved by the fire chief; engineering data shall be submitted with plans review submittal to substantiate weight-bearing capacity when required by the fire chief;
E. Have a vertical clearance of not less than twelve feet;
F. Have a maximum gradient of eight percent (eight feet in one hundred feet);
G. Have forty feet minimum center line radius on curves; and
H. Be dead ended at no more than two hundred feet maximum length; or allow through passage; or terminate in minimum forty foot centerline radius cul-de-sac.
