9-3-31: LIMITED LOAD STREETS:
It shall be unlawful to operate any vehicle on any street in the City when the gross weight on the surface of the road through any axle of such vehicle exceeds sixteen thousand (16,000) pounds. Where lower limits are imposed by ordinance and signs indicating such limitations are posted, it shall be unlawful to operate a vehicle in excess of such weight on such street, except for the purpose of making delivery or picking up a load, in which case such vehicle may be driven on such street for not more than the minimum distance necessary for the purpose.
   (A)   Exceptions:
      1.   No motor vehicle having a weight of eight thousand (8,000) pounds or over, whether loaded or unloaded, shall be operated on Seventeenth Avenue in the City, between East Walnut and East Chestnut Streets in said City; provided, however, this provision shall not apply to emergency vehicles or vehicles making pick ups or deliveries.
      2.   No single unit vehicle, as defined by the Illinois Vehicle Code, weighing more than twenty three (23) tons may be driven or operated upon the Cass Street Bridge. No combination vehicle, as defined by the Illinois Vehicle Code, weighing more than thirty two (32) tons may be driven or operated upon the Cass Street Bridge. That the City shall erect proper signage, as regulated by the Illinois Vehicle Code and Illinois Department of Transportation, to allow for proper display of these regulations. (Ord. 4117, 10-16-2018)
