2-10-1: COMPOSITION:
The Canton pride commission shall be composed of eight (8) adult citizens of the city. Each member of said commission shall serve without pay. Four (4) of the said citizens shall be recommended for appointment by the aldermen of each of their respective ward and the remaining four (4) shall be members at large who shall be appointed by the mayor. The manner of appointment and terms of office shall be as hereinafter set forth:
   (A)   Manner Of Appointment And Terms Of Office: Members of the commission shall be appointed by the mayor after consultation with the two (2) aldermen of each respective ward and subject to the approval and confirmation of the city council. With the exception of the initial appointees, members of the commission shall be appointed for two (2) year terms commencing and ending with the first Tuesday in May of applicable years. A membership vacancy which occurs during a term of office shall be filled for the remainder of such term in the same manner as provided with respect to the original appointment. No person may serve as a member of the commission for more than two (2) consecutive terms. For the purpose of the preceding sentence the tenure of an initial appointee and the tenure of a member appointed to fill a membership vacancy shall be considered a "term"; provided, however, that tenure in office for less than eighteen (18) months shall not be considered a "term" for the purpose of the preceding sentence.
   (B)   Initial Appointee: This term has reference to those members of the commission first appointed thereto in creation of Canton pride. The terms of office of such members shall be as follows: four (4) members shall be appointed for a one year term and four (4) of said members would be appointed for a two (2) year term. The term of office for each initial appointee shall be designated by the mayor and approved and confirmed by the city council at the time of the appointment to membership to the commission.
