After complying with the preceding provisions, every applicant for a driver's license shall be examined by the Director as to the applicant's knowledge of the provisions governing the operation of a taxicab and the traffic laws of the city. The applicant shall produce evidence that he has had at least six months' experience operating a motor vehicle and shall, if required, demonstrate his driving ability.
