§ 76.27 DEPOSIT OF LAWFUL COIN AND PLACING METER IN OPERATION REQUIRED.
When any vehicle shall be parked in any space adjacent to which a parking meter is located in accordance with the provisions of this subchapter, the operator of such vehicle shall, upon entering the parking space, immediately deposit or cause to be deposited in the parking meter such coins of the United States as are prescribed in § 76.21 and to put such meter in operation. Failure to deposit such coins and put the meter in operation shall constitute a violation of this subchapter and shall subject such person to the penalty prescribed herein. Upon the deposit of such coins and the placing of the meter in operation, the parking space may be lawfully occupied by such vehicle during the period of parking time which has been prescribed for the part of the street in which the parking space is located. If such vehicle shall remain parked in any such parking space beyond the parking time limit fixed for such parking space, the parking meter shall, by its dial and pointer, indicate such illegal parking. In that event, such vehicle shall be considered as parked overtime and beyond the period of legal parking time. The parking of a vehicle overtime or beyond the period of legal parking time in any such part of a street where any parking meter is located shall be considered a violation of this subchapter.
