§ 74.55 DESIGNATION OF HEAVY-VEHICLE TRAFFIC STREETS.
   (A)   The Safety-Service Director shall have the authority to designate which streets or alleys shall be closed to heavy-vehicle traffic. HEAVY-VEHICLE includes a bus, trailer, semitrailer or truck.
   (B)   When thaws or excessive moisture renders the improved street or alley of this municipality or any sections of them insufficient to bear the traffic thereon, or when such street or alley would be damaged or destroyed by heavy traffic during the period of thawing or excessive moisture, the maximum weight of vehicle and load as prescribed shall be reduced by 50%. The schedule of the reduction of maximum weights shall be filed, for the information of the public, in the office of the Safety-Service Director. The Safety-Service Director, at least one day before such reduction becomes effective, shall cause to be placed and retained on such street or alley at both ends and at the points of intersection by principle roads, during the period of such reduced limitation of weight, signs of substantial construction which will conspicuously indicate the limitation of weight which are allowed on the street or alley and the date on which such limitations shall go into effect.
   (C)   The Safety-Service Director shall designate the streets and/or alleys to be closed to heavy- vehicle traffic and shall announce the streets and/or alleys so closed to heavy-vehicle traffic by means of newspaper and radio communications prior to the date of the closing.
   (D)   No one shall operate a heavy vehicle on any street or alley which has been designated as closed to heavy-vehicle traffic.
   (E)   Whoever violates this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor.
