(A) Fire hydrants shall be installed at intervals not to exceed 500 feet of each laying length. They shall be National Standard Thread, equipped with one 4-1/2-inch pumper nozzle and two 2-1/2-inch fire hydrant hose nozzles, which is the same as all city fire hydrants. The lateral and connecting hub of the hydrant shall not have less than a six-inch connection, and hydrant valve opening shall have diameter of at least 5-1/4 inches, to assure optimum flow. Operating and cap nuts will be pentagon in shape; dimension shall be 1-1/2-inch point to flat. They shall be installed complete with a clockwise closing AWWA Standard gate valve as a watch valve.
(B) All hydrants in private areas should be tested and flushed two times each year. The hydrants are to be inspected by the Fire Department to determine the flow of the hydrant, at which time the owner will color code them, in the same manner as the city-owned hydrants.
