§ 35.03 VACATIONS.
   (A)   All full-time employees of the city, the municipal court, and the Clerk of Council shall be given the following paid vacations. Employees in service of the city for more than one continuous year shall be granted a paid vacation equivalent to two calendar weeks. Employees in service of the city for more than five years shall be granted a paid vacation equivalent to three calendar weeks. Employees in service of the city for more than ten years shall be granted a paid vacation equivalent to four calendar weeks. Employees in service of the city for more than 18 years shall be granted a paid vacation equivalent to five calendar weeks.

   (B)   A calendar week is considered to mean a week commencing on Sunday and ending on Saturday. Not more than one week of vacation may be taken one day at a time, subject to the approval of the employee's supervisor. Employees must notify their supervisor at least one week in advance of their request to use their vacation in this manner.

   (C)   Periods of vacation shall be arranged by the heads of the various departments affected, so that the department shall be, at all times, adequately serviced by a sufficient number of employees. Vacations shall be arranged, insofar as is possible, so that employees having seniority of service shall be given preference as to vacation periods.
   (D)   Each department shall schedule the vacations within the department no later than the last Friday in February of the current year. The schedule shall be turned in to the payroll department of the City Auditor's office no later than the first Monday of March of the current year. Any employee desiring to change his vacation schedule after that date, must notify the head of his department no later than two weeks prior to the change, and such department shall notify the Auditor that the change is being made with his approval.
   (E)   Any employee who is separated from the city service through retirement shall receive a lump sum settlement for unused vacation time as described in this section. Any such employee who is later reinstated to service with the city shall return to service as a newly hired employee with a zero balance in unused vacation and a zero balance in years of service and shall begin to accumulate vacation time and years of service pursuant to service within the city.
