For the purpose of this ordinance, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
CHARGES FOR WATER SUPPLY SERVICES or CHARGES. The amount charged to each premises in the city for water supply services.
CITY. The City of Burton, Michigan.
CONNECTION FEE or AVAILABILITY FEE. The amount charged at the time and in the amount hereinafter provided, to each premises in the city for connecting directly or indirectly to the system.
COUNCIL. The City Council, the legislative and governing body of the city.
COUNTY. The County of Genesee, Michigan.
DEPARTMENT. The City Water Department or an authorized division, employee, or representative as designated thereby.
DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM or SYSTEM. The water supply system as now or hereafter established and constructed by the county, to serve the residents of the city.
INSPECTION AND APPROVAL FEE. The amount charged to each applicant by the district at the time an application is made to the city to connect the premises in the city to the water distribution system to cover the cost of the water meter, the cost of installing the line from the main to the property line, the cost of the corporation stop and curb box, curb stop, and pipe, the cost of inspection and approving the physical connection from the curb box to the meter, and the issuance of a connection permit.
PERSON. Any individual, firm, association, public or private corporation, or public agency or instrumentality.
PREMISES. Each lot or parcel of land, building, or premises having any connection to the water system of the city or the sewage disposal system of the city.
TAP, METER, INSPECTION AND APPROVAL FEE. The amount charged to each applicant by the county or city at the time an application is made to the city to connect the premises in the city to the water distribution system to cover the cost of the water meter, the cost of installing the line from the main to the property line, the cost of the corporation stop and curb box, curb stop, and pipe, the cost of inspection and approving the physical connection from the curb box to the meter, and the issuance of a connection permit.
UNIT. Any premises or portion of premises to which there is available or delivered that quantity of water ordinarily used in or needed for the occupancy of a residence building by a single family.
WATER CONNECTION. The part of the water distribution system connecting the watermain with the premises served.
WATER SUPPLY DISTRICT or DISTRICT. The county loop, and city water supply system in the city, established and constructed by the county or city, including all extensions, enlargements. and improvements thereto in the area served by the system in the city.
WATER SUPPLY SERVICES. The transportation, metering, pumping, and delivery of potable water to the properties now or hereafter connected directly or indirectly to the water supply system.
WATERMAIN. The part of the water distribution system located within the easement lines of streets designed to supply more than 1 water connection.
