6.01 GENERAL
a.   Qualifications
   An appointee to be eligible to serve as a member of a board or commission of the City shall be and remain a qualified elector of the City of Brunswick and shall have been a resident of the Municipality for one year years preceding appointment and shall continue to remain a resident during the member’s term. b.   Appointments
   Except as otherwise required by Ohio statutory law, all members of City and non-City boards and commissions shall be appointed by the Mayor with confirmation by the majority of the members of Council. (Amended 11-3-20)
 
c.   Vacancies
   A vacancy occurring during the term of any member of a board or commission shall be filled for the unexpired term in the manner authorized for an original appointment.
d.   Removal
   1.   The Mayor may at any time remove any Board or Commission member for:
      A.   Inefficiency
      B.   Neglect of duty
      C.   Misfeasance
      D.   Nonfeasance
      E.   Malfeasance
      F.   Incapacity; or
      G.   Incompetency
   2.   The Mayor must first give to such Board or Commission member a copy of the specific charge(s) against the member.
   3.   If requested by such Board or Commission member within five (5) days of receipt of charge(s) under Section 6.01d.2., an opportunity shall be given such member to be publicly heard before the Council, in person or by counsel, to present evidence or examine any witnesses appearing in support of such charge(s). After the requested hearing, the Board or Commission member shall only be removed from office upon the affirmative vote of at least four (4) members of Council hearing such charges.
 
e.   Voting
   Each board and commission shall keep a journal of its proceedings. The voting shall be taken by name in the form of yeas and nays and entered in the journal, and the vote of a majority of all the members in attendance shall be necessary to adopt any question, motion or order.
 
f.   Meetings
   All regular and special meetings of Boards and Commissions shall be subject to the provisions of the Ohio Sunshine Law, as it may be amended from time to time, codified at Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code.
 
g.   Opinions
   Any board or commission may request the Law Director to review a decision of any board or commission in accordance with Article V, Section 5.04 of this Charter.
 
h.   Compensation and Expenses
   Unless specifically prohibited by this Charter, the appointed members of a board or commission may be compensated and reimbursed for expenses as provided by ordinance.
