(a) There is established and continued a paid Fire Department within the City of Bridgeport consisting of paid full time firemen as defined by Article 15, Chapter 8 of the West Virginia Code, which said Department shall be supplemented, aided, and assisted by volunteer firemen within said Department in accordance with the rules, regulations and policies of the Bridgeport City Fire Department and the West Virginia State Fire Commission of the West Virginia Fire Marshal’s office, as the same are applicable to a combination fire department.

(b) A Firemen’s Civil Service Commission is hereby established with members to be appointed as required by Article 15 of Chapter 8 of the West Virginia Code.
(c) The provisions of this section shall be applied prospectively only and the firemen currently employed by the City shall continue in their respective positions subject only to the future application of the civil service provisions of Article 15 of Chapter 8 of the West Virginia Code.
