(A) (1) Only drivers who are properly licensed to operate motor vehicles on the streets of the town shall be allowed to operate a golf cart, or other like vehicles not already licensed for operation, on the streets of said town.
(2) Hereafter, any reference to golf cart in this section shall include vehicles not already licensed for operation on public highways such as Gators or other utility vehicles.
(B) Any golf cart to be operated within the limits of the town shall be registered with the Clerk-Treasurer of said town before its operation, and an annual calendar year registration fee of $20 paid at that time for such privilege. Such registration fees shall be maintained in a separate fund by the Clerk-Treasurer and used to assist with the enforcement of this section, unless otherwise determined by the Town Council.
(C) It is recommended that any golf cart to be operated within the limits of the town should be covered with general liability insurance.
(D) All golf carts so operated hereunder shall obey this traffic code as amended, and all rules of the road either established thereby or by other applicable law.
(1) Such golf cart shall also be required to display a proper slow-moving vehicle sign on the rear of the golf cart, and a sticker to be provided by the town showing that the golf cart has been registered for current operation in the town.
(2) Any golf cart that is driven one hour before sunrise and/or one hour after sunset must have both front and rear lights on it visible for at least 500 feet.
(E) Operation of golf carts in the town shall be limited to streets or alleys of the town, and shall not be allowed upon any state highways within the town other than for the purpose of crossing the same. In no event shall golf carts be operated on sidewalks of the town.
(F) Any golf cart to be operated on the streets of the town shall be equipped with factory seating for no more than four occupants, and no more than four occupants shall be allowed in the golf cart while it is being operated on the streets or alleys of the town. All occupants shall be seated while the golf cart is in operation.
(G) The Town Council may exempt certain golf carts from this section in favor of town employees during special events of the town as determined by the Town Council.
(H) Pursuant to state laws, no golf cart may be operated on any street or highway on the streets of the town if the speed limit is greater than 35 mph.
