Each owner shall be responsible for maintaining, cleaning, repairing and replacement of the sewer lateral from the house to the sewer main. The city shall not be liable for any stoppages in the sewer system. Each owner should provide a suitable back water valve to prevent flooding of basements in the event of sewer stoppage.
