If any provision of this code as herein enacted or hereafter amended, or the application thereof to any person or circumstances is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other provisions or applications of this code, or any section or portion of section hereof, which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end the provisions of this code are, and are intended to be, severable.
