9-1-302: AMENDMENTS TO CALIFORNIA ELECTRICAL CODE:
The California Electrical Code is hereby amended as follows:
Section 701.1 is amended to read as follows:
   701.1 Scope.
   A standby power system is required to be designed and installed in all new single-family dwellings and all existing single-family dwellings if:
      (i)   additions, alterations or repairs are made within any twelve (12) month period which exceed fifty percent (50%) of the value of such existing building,
      (ii)   (ii) an addition is constructed which exceeds fifty percent (50%) of the square footage of the existing building, or
      (iii)   (iii) an addition of more than five thousand (5,000) square feet is constructed.
   The standby source of power shall be a system allowed by Section 701.12.
   The minimum rating of the standby power system shall be based on the demand load calculations of the dwelling pursuant to Article 220 of the current edition of the California Electrical Code. At a minimum, the standby power system shall be connected to all circuits and equipment considered essential, including one heating/cooling system, security systems, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, smoke detectors, openers for garage door(s) and gate(s), electric vehicle charging equipment, any sewage and sump pumps, communication and/or wireless equipment, general lighting and branch circuit outlets for kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and common areas.
   The provisions of this article apply to the electrical safety of the installation, operation, and maintenance of legally required standby systems consisting of circuits and equipment intended to supply, distribute, and control electricity when the normal electrical supply or system is interrupted.
