A. Generally: Businesses regulated by this title shall be required to be licensed prior to operation. All licensed businesses shall be required to follow the mandates of this code. (2008 Code § 16-1)
B. License Required For Sales Of Goods, Wares Or Merchandise; Fees:
1. Unless otherwise regulated by the state or municipal code, all retail and wholesale businesses within the city which sell goods, wares, or merchandise shall obtain a license therefor. No business shall be required to obtain both a retail business and transient merchant license.
2. The fee for such license shall be:
a. Seventy five dollars ($75.00) for businesses occupying up to four thousand (4,000) square feet of space.
b. One hundred twenty five dollars ($125.00) for businesses occupying four thousand one (4,001) to nine thousand (9,000) square feet of space.
c. One hundred seventy five dollars ($175.00) for businesses occupying nine thousand one (9,001) to fourteen thousand (14,000) square feet of space. (2008 Code § 16-3)
d. Two hundred twenty five dollars ($225.00) for businesses occupying fourteen thousand one (14,001) square feet or more of space. (2008 Code § 16-3; amd. 2015 Code)
C. Term Of License:
1. Unless otherwise stated on the license, a license shall be issued effective on the date of issuance through June 30. License renewals shall be effective from July 1 through June 30. (2008 Code § 16-2)
2. New licenses issued on dates other than July 1 shall be prorated. (2008 Code § 16-2; amd. 2015 Code)
D. License Nontransferable: No license shall be transferred to any other business or individual. (2008 Code § 16-13)
E. Additional License For Entertainment Machines: Any business operating or allowing to be operated within its premises any of the following: electronic video games, electronic pinball machines, pinball machines, pool tables, jukeboxes, or other similar devices, shall obtain an additional license for each such machine, and the cost of such license shall be twenty five dollars ($25.00) for each machine.
