A. Board Created; Composition: In order to determine the suitability of alternate materials and types of construction in the construction of buildings and to provide for reasonable interpretations of the provisions of the construction and technical codes adopted by the city, there shall be and is hereby created a board of appeals constituted as follows:
1. Two (2) members shall be in the construction field or a related field, one of which may be a bonded contractor in the city;
2. One member shall be associated with a fire department, or have experience in the firefighting profession;
3. One member shall be associated with an architectural firm or have experience in the architectural profession;
4. One member shall be a representative of the general citizenry of the city. (2008 Code § 2-61)
B. Qualifications; Experienced With Adopted Codes: All members shall be qualified and experienced and trained to pass on matters pertaining to building construction, occupancy, abatement and fire hazards as set forth in the adopted building code, property maintenance code, residential code and the fire code. C. Building Inspector: The building inspector shall act as the secretary of the board, and he/she will also be an ex officio member except on items related to the fire code.
D. Fire Code: The fire chief or chief's designee shall be an ex officio member of the board on items relating to the fire code. (2008 Code § 2-61)
