§ 90.25 LICENSING PROVISIONS.
   (A)   License required. It shall be unlawful for any dog over the age of six months to be kept or to remain in the town, unless such dog shall be registered and the license fee imposed by division (B)(1) below paid by the owner thereof.
   (B)   License fee.
      (1)   Fee imposed. A license fee of $2 is hereby imposed on all dogs kept in the town; provided that, such license fee shall not be imposed on any dog under six months of age.
      (2)   Due date. Prior to May 1, the owner shall pay such license fee to the town’s Clerk-Treasurer, or the day after acquisition of any dog for which license fee has not been paid for the year in which acquired, or upon bringing a dog into the town after May 1.
   (C)   Certificate of rabies vaccination. Before the town’s Clerk-Treasurer accepts any money offered in payment of the license fee for a dog or issues a license for it, the person offering the license fee shall present to the Clerk-Treasurer the certificate of a veterinarian or other person legally authorized to immunize dogs, showing that the dog has been immunized against rabies during the calendar year (that is, since the last December 31).
   (D)   License tags.
      (1)   Issuance; use required.
         (a)   All license fees provided for in this section shall be paid the town’s Clerk-Treasurer, and when such license fee is paid, the Clerk-Treasurer shall issue to the owner of such dog a metallic tag and original receipt as now provided by the ordinances of the town, and it shall be the duty of every owner of a registered dog to keep at all times around the neck of the dog a collar to which is attached by metallic fastener the metallic tag mentioned in this division (D)(1)(a).
         (b)   It shall be the duty of the town’s Clerk-Treasurer to procure metallic tags having cast, raised or stamped thereon the words “Dog Tax” and date indicating the date for which the taxes have been paid, and number corresponding to the number on a book in which dogs shall be registered.
      (2)   Lost tags. In case the tag is lost before the end of the year for which it was issued, the owner may secure another for the dog by applying to the town’s Clerk-Treasurer, presenting to him or her the original receipt and paying to him or her a fee of $2.
