(A) (1) Grease, oil and sand traps or interceptors shall be provided when, in the opinion of the Public Works Superintendent, they are necessary for the proper handling of liquid wastes containing grease in excessive amounts or any flammable wastes, sands or other harmful ingredients, except that such interceptors and/or traps shall not be required for private dwelling quarters or residential units.
(2) All interceptors or traps shall be of a type and capacity approved by the PWA Superintendent and shall be located in such a manner and location so as to be readily and easily accessible for both inspection and cleaning.
(B) Such interceptors or traps shall be constructed of impervious materials capable of withstanding abrupt and extreme changes in temperature. They shall be of substantial construction, watertight and equipped with easily-removable covers which, when bolted in place, shall be both gastight and watertight.
(C) Such grease traps and interceptors, when required, shall be maintained by the owner at the owner’s expense in a proper and continuous manner so as to provide efficient operation.
(D) Such grease traps and interceptors shall be available to the employees and agents of the city at all reasonable times and places.
