Upon receipt of the rabies certificate and payment of any fee or penalty specified in Section 608.17, the City Treasurer or an authorized agent of the City Treasurer shall issue a tag made of metal or other suitable material bearing the name of the City, and the profile number. The tag shall be attached to the collar of the licensed dog or cat. Dogs and cats shall wear collars affixed with their City license tags at all times when off the premises of their owners, except as otherwise permitted by this chapter or unless the dog is engaged in lawful sport hunting and is accompanied by its owner. No person other than the owner, an ACO, or a Police Officer, in the line of duty shall remove a license tag from a dog or cat. If a license tag is lost, it shall be replaced by the City Treasurer or authorized agent of the City Treasurer upon application by the owner of the dog or cat. The cost of replacement of a tag shall be determined from time to time by the City Commission as set out in Section 802.24.
