8-4-8: REPORT OF BITES:
When the animal control officer receives information that any person has been bitten by an animal, the animal control officer shall have such animal confined under the observation of a licensed veterinarian for a period of ten (10) days. Such veterinarian shall immediately by telephone or in person report the clinical condition of the animal, and provide written confirmation to the animal control officer within twenty four (24) hours after the animal is presented for examination, giving the owner's name and address, the date of confinement, and the breed, description, age and sex of such animal. The animal control officer shall notify the attending physician or responsible health agency. At the end of the confinement period, the veterinarian shall submit a written report to the animal control officer advising him of the final disposition of such animal. When evidence is presented that such animal was inoculated against rabies, it may be confined to the house of its owner or in a manner which will prohibit it from biting any person for a period of ten (10) days, if the animal control officer adjudges such confinement satisfactory. At the end of the confinement period, such animal shall again be examined by a licensed veterinarian. Any expenses incurred in the handling of any animal under this section shall be borne by the owner and shall be paid prior to the redemption of the animal. (Ord. 93-8, 7-26-1993)
