153.04 HOLIDAYS.
   (a)    For purposes of this section, "holidays" means the following days:
      (1)    The first day of January, known as New Year's Day;
      (2)    The third Monday in February, known as Washington-Lincoln Day;
      (3)    Good Friday; (Ord. 1592. Passed 12-22-81.)
      (4)    The last Monday in May, known as Decoration or Memorial Day;
         (Ord. 1694. Passed 5-20-85.)
      (5)    The fourth day of July, known as Independence Day;
      (6)    The first Monday in September, known as Labor Day;
      (7)    The second Monday in October, known as Columbus Day;
      (8)    The eleventh Day of November, known as Veterans Day;
      (9)   The fourth Thursday in November known as Thanksgiving Day; and four hours after 12:00 noon of the Wednesday preceding Thanksgiving;
      (10)    The twenty-fifth day of December, known as Christmas Day; and four hours of the day preceding Christmas Day, after 12:00 noon. This four hour holiday will be observed on the Friday, preceding a Christmas Day on Monday.

      (11)   The third Monday of January, known as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

   (b)    The following employees of the Municipality are entitled to eight hours of pay at the base rate of pay at the time of such holiday, for each holiday:

Street Laborers
Police Lieutenant
Meter Reader, Laborers
Police Sergeant
Class I, II & III - Water
Regular Police Officer
Class I, II - Sewer
Juvenile Police Officer
Sewer Trainee
Probationary Police Officer
Income Tax Clerk
Deputy Desk Officers
Assistant Clerk
   In the event any holiday falls on a Saturday, the Friday immediately preceding shall be observed as the holiday. In the event any holiday falls on a Sunday, the Monday immediately succeeding shall be observed as the holiday. If an employee's work schedule is other than Monday through Friday, he is entitled to holiday pay for holidays observed on his day off regardless of the day of the week on which they are observed. The provisions herein for observing Saturday holidays on Friday and for observing Sunday holidays on Monday, shall not apply to employees of the Police Department.

   (c)    Holiday pay is in addition to regular pay and shall be paid not later than at the next succeeding date of payment of regular pay. However, for purposes of computing overtime pay, time and one-half shall be paid for all hours worked after thirty-two hours in a calendar week during which a holiday is observed.
   (d)    An employee entitled to holiday pay shall not be required to work on a holiday unless in the opinion of his or her responsible administrative supervisor the public service would be impaired. In such event the employee shall be paid at one and one-half times his rate for each hour worked on such holiday and this shall be in addition to his or her holiday pay. (Ord. 1407. Passed 1-5-76.)
