In accordance with G.S. § 20-129, it shall be unlawful to operate a bicycle upon the streets, or to operate a bicycle after dark without a light on the front of the bicycle which shall emit a light visible from a distance of at least 300 feet to the front and with a reflector or light on the rear of a type approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles which shall be visible from a distance of at least 200 feet to the rear when directly in front of lower beams of head lights on a motor vehicle.
