955.07 DUTIES.
The duties of the Tree Commission shall be as follows:
(a) To study the problems and determine the needs of the City in connection with a tree planting and beautification program and/or the City's Master Tree Plan.
(b) To consider, revise and administer the City's Master Tree Plan which is to be updated every two (2) years.
(c) When requested by Council, to consider, investigate, make findings, report and recommend upon any special matter or question coming within the scope of the Tree Commission's duties.
(d) To recommend to the City Arborist or his/her designees, the location, type and kind of trees to be planted upon City streets and/or in City Parks.
(e) To assist the Director of Parks and Recreation, the City Arborist or his/her designees, as well as Council and the residents of the City, in the dissemination of news and information regarding the selection, planting and maintenance of trees within the corporate limits.
(f) To work in conjunction with civic and public interest groups devoted to tree care and preservation.
(g) To discuss at its regular and special meetings the subject of trees, insofar as they relate to the City, and all other aspects of the City tree program.
(h) Upon request of a City official and/or Commission, to review, comment, and consult with the Director of Planning and Zoning or his/her designee and/or the Planning Commission to assist him/her/them in reviewing plans for residential, commercial, and industrial developments and/or any other improvement or modification of undeveloped land, in order to ascertain the number and size of trees proposed to be removed, whether from building sites or otherwise, and to make recommendations to him/her/them, can be communicated through the City Arborist, concerning the retention of existing trees on such sites and the planting of new trees in areas where trees have been removed. Any City Arborist recommendations regarding the foregoing shall first be brought before the Tree Commission for its review and approval.
(i) The Tree Commission Chairman, the Secretary to the Tree Commission, the Parks & Recreation Advisor, and the Arborist should work together on any Tree Commission recommendation concerning the planting and/or removal of trees in the City right-of-way and disseminating this information to the appropriate parties.
