§ 238.01 DELIVERY OF FIRE AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES.
   (a)   The Township Board of Commissioners has the legal authority under the Pa. First Class Township Code to provide fire and emergency medical services to the citizens, businesses and visitors of the municipality.
   (b)   The Township Board of Commissioners recognizes the challenges that the volunteer fire and emergency medical services community faces today.
   (c)   The Township Board of Commissioners recognizes and supports the efforts of the Township Fire and EMS Cooperative Partnership Steering Committee.
   (d)   The Township Board of Commissioners pledges its support and assistance to the community’s newly organized volunteer fire and emergency medical services organization, the Township Fire Department.
   (e)   The Township Board of Commissioners adopt this section to officially designate the municipality’s fire and emergency medical services and provide the following for its success:
      (1)   Officially recognize the Township Fire Department as the primary fire and emergency medical services providers for the township;
      (2)   Assist with the consolidation of Green Ridge Volunteer Fire Company and the Aston-Beechwood Volunteer Fire Company into the newly organized Aston Township Fire Department;
      (3)   Provide the required worker’s compensation insurance coverage, financial assistance and other items as agreed to in the to be developed and approved Memorandum of Understanding between the Township of Aston and Aston Township Fire Department;
      (4)   Provide the annual Pennsylvania Volunteer Fireman’s Relief Association allocation to the newly organized Aston Township Fire Department Volunteer Fireman’s Relief Association; and
      (5)   Support future discussions with surrounding volunteer fire and emergency medical services and their municipal governing bodies on the delivery of emergency services.
