Any employee of the City who is either conscripted or volunteers for service in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps or other military service of the United States shall, upon request, be granted a leave of absence from City employment, which leave of absence shall be granted for the period which he serves in the military service of the United States and for a period of thirty days thereafter. During the thirty day period, the employee shall have the right to apply for reemployment in his former capacity and, provided the applicant is physically fit to perform the duties of his employment, shall be reemployed by the City in the same position which he had held immediately prior to his leaving for military service.
