§ 31.39  POLICE RESERVES.
   (A)   The Town Council may appoint any number of persons as police reserves who shall serve at the pleasure of the Town Council.
   (B)   Police reserves shall not be members of the regular Police Department of the town.
   (C)   Police reserves shall have only those powers as provided by the rules and regulations adopted by the Town Council and as set forth or limited by statutes, rules and regulations of the state.
   (D)   Members of the town’s Police Reserves, to the extent that sums, if any, for the benefits are appropriated by the Town Council, may:
      (1)   Receive a uniform allowance;
      (2)   Receive compensation for time lost from other employment because of court appearance; and
      (3)   Be insured for life, accident and sickness coverage.
   (E)   Members of the town’s Police Reserves are not eligible to participate in any pension programs provided for regular members of the Department.
   (F)   The Town Council is not required to appropriate any sums of money for benefits, compensation, insurance and other allowances for members of the Police Reserves and, in such instances, members of the Police Reserves shall provide their own uniforms and shall serve without receiving any type or form of compensation or benefits from the town, nor shall they make or file a claim against the town for benefits, compensation or allowances.
   (G)   A police reserve may not be appointed until he or she has completed the training and probationary period specified by rules of the Police Department.
