§ 1-7-101. County seal.
   (a)   Appearance. The County seal shall be rendered as follows.
      (1)   Overall form. The overall form of the Anne Arundel County seal shall be an oval in an aspect ratio of height to width of 1.1 to 1.0.
      (2)   Field. The field of the seal shall be white.
      (3)   Border. The seal shall have a border. The width of the border shall be 1.1 times the width of a parallelogram in the Calvert Coat of Arms embedded in the shield.
      (4)   Border pearls. Inside the border shall be 128 border pearls in gold. The width of each border pearl shall be .53 times the width of the border. The uppermost and bottom-most border pearls shall align with the centerline of the shield.
      (5)   County name. Along the inner edge of the border shall be affixed the words "ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY MARYLAND" in all capital letters in Times New Roman font. The letter "A" in "ANNE" shall align with the lower left curve of the shield. The foot of the "L" in "ARUNDEL" shall align with the leftmost large pearl in the coronet. The letter "C" in "COUNTY" shall align with the rightmost large pearl in the coronet. The letter "D" in "MARYLAND" shall align with the lower right curve of the shield. The height of each letter in "ANNE ARUNDEL" shall be 1.2 times the width of a parallelogram in the Calvert Coat of Arms embedded in the shield. The height of each letter in "COUNTY MARYLAND" shall be 1.1 times the width of a parallelogram in the Calvert Coat of Arms embedded in the shield.
      (6)   Shield.
         (i)   Inside the seal shall be a shield. The height of the shield shall be .52 times the height of the seal. The width of the shield shall be .54 times the width of the seal. The shape of the shield shall include 90 degree angles in the upper left and upper right corners of the shield, shall include curvilinear lines in the lower left and lower right corners of the shield, and shall come to a point at the bottom of the shield that aligns with the centerline of the shield.
         (ii)   The outermost edge of the shield shall be a narrow black border. Inside the narrow black border shall be a narrow white border. Inside the narrow white border shall be a second black border, the width of which shall be 1.1 times the combined widths of the narrow black and narrow white borders. The combined widths of the three borders shall be .49 times the width of a parallelogram in the Calvert Coat of Arms embedded in the shield.
         (iii)   The interior of the shield shall be evenly quartered by two perpendicular black lines. The upper left and lower right quadrants shall take the form of the black and gold stripes of the Calvert Coat of Arms: a paly of six pieces, gold and black, and a bend dexter counterchanged, so that they consist of six alternating gold and black vertical bars with a diagonal band of parallelograms, the colors of which are reversed. The lower right corner of the upper left quadrant shall be gold, and the upper left corner of the lower right quadrant shall be black.
         (iv)   The lower left quadrant and the upper right quadrant shall take the form of the Crossland Coat of Arms, but containing crosses fleury in place of crosses bottany. The lower left and the upper right quadrants shall be quartered. Centrally placed in each quadrant shall be a cross fleury, with each cross fleury extending the full breadth of the quadrant. The colors of each quadrant shall be white and red, and the cross fleury shall be counterchanged. The upper left and lower right quarters of the lower left quadrant shall be in white, and the lower left and upper right quarters of the upper right quadrant shall be in red.
      (7)   Roses. Centered below the shield shall be two branches with one rose and one thorn each. The roses shall be red, and the branches shall be gold. The ends of the rose branches shall curl under toward the bottom of the seal to form brackets. The roses shall align with the vertical lines that bisect the crosses fleury.
      (8)   Coronet.
         (i)   Floating atop the shield shall be a baron's coronet. The coronet shall be pitched back at an angle of approximately 20 degrees, revealing the inner portion of the coronet.
         (ii)   There shall be a gold tassel centered on the top of the coronet. The tassel shall be the same height as a large pearl described in paragraph (iii).
         (iii)   The crown of the coronet shall be red and shall undulate in the form of velvet. Affixed to the crown shall be four large pearls. The diameter of each large pearl shall be 1.9 times the width of a parallelogram in the Calvert Coat of Arms embedded in the shield.
         (iv)   Below the crown and large pearls shall be a gold band divided into three sections: upper, middle, and lower bands. The three sections of the band shall be configured such that the height of the middle band shall be 1.3 times the combined height of the upper and lower bands. Within the middle band shall be five black diamonds elongated so as to be 2.2 times as wide as they are long. The width of each diamond shall be 1.2 times the width of a parallelogram in the Calvert Coat of Arms embedded in the shield. The middle diamond shall be centered on the vertical centerline of the shield. Between each diamond shall be two black dots one on top of the other.
         (v)   Below the band shall be a white band with the appearance of ermine. The height of the white band shall be .88 times the width of a parallelogram in the Calvert Coat of Arms embedded in the shield. Within the white band shall be five black dots, each centered under a diamond in the middle gold band. The diameter of each black dot shall be .68 times the height of each diamond. Below the white band shall be the inside of the coronet in black.
      (9)   Colors. The colors of the seal shall be: black – pantone process black c; gold – pantone 124 c; red – pantone 201 c; and white.
      (10)   Official rendering. The official rendering of the seal of Anne Arundel County, Maryland shall be archived with the Maryland State Archives.
   (b)   Attestation. In addition to the County Executive, the Secretary to the County Executive, and the Administrative Officer to the County Council, the Chief of Staff may attest to the County seal. In their absence, the County Attorney or the Budget Officer may attest to the County seal.
