§ 6-1-205. Variable pay.
   (a)   Applicability. This section applies to all employees in the classified service who are not represented by a certified employee organization, including employees who are at or above the maximum pay for their grade, and to all classified employees represented by AFSCME Local 582 and AFSCME Local 2563.
   (b)   Variable pay award. An appointing authority may make a variable pay award to any employee who makes an extraordinary contribution to the operation of the County office or department; makes a significant singular effort or contribution; or performs an action or service that brings credit to the County or the employee's department or office.
   (c)   Effect on designated base pay. A variable pay award may be monetary or non- monetary and does not increase the designated annual base pay of an employee.
   (d)   Procedures for awarding. Subject to available appropriations, one or more variable pay awards may be made to an employee as follows:
      (1)   one or more awards in the cumulative amount of up to $250 may be made by the appointing authority in a fiscal year;
      (2)   one or more awards in the cumulative amount of more than $250, up to and including $1,000, may be made by the appointing authority with the approval of the Chief Administrative Officer in a fiscal year; and
      (3)   one or more awards in the cumulative amount of more than $1,000 may be made by the appointing authority with the approval of the Chief Administrative Officer and the County Executive in a fiscal year.
