§ 3-11-101. Established; purpose; coverage.
   (a)   Fund established; purpose. There is a Self-Insurance Fund for the County. The Fund shall be used to secure:
      (1)   the liability of the County, The Public Library Association of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, Inc., and the volunteer fire companies and rescue squads for which the County provides insurance coverage, for the payment of property damage, automobile liability, and general liability claims against themselves and their respective agents, servants, and employees; and
      (2)   the liability of the County for the payment of workers' compensation benefits to persons whose salaries are paid from the County payroll, persons to whom benefits are otherwise required to be paid by the County under State or County law, and other persons for whom the County elects to provide workers' compensation benefits under an agreement.
   (b)   Coverage. The Self-Insurance Fund constitutes the insurance coverage required to be maintained by the County pursuant to the Transportation Article, of the State Code, and the Labor and Employment Article, of the State Code, on approval of the State Motor Vehicle Administration and the State Workers' Compensation Commission, respectively.
   (c)   Agreements. The County may cooperate with and enter into agreements with the Board of Education of Anne Arundel County and the Anne Arundel Community College to provide insurance coverage for property damage, workers' compensation and liability claims against the Board of Education and the Community College, and their respective agents, servants, and employees.
