As used in this chapter:
(1) "Permanent swimming pool" means any swimming pool not described in paragraph (2) of this section. A permit is required.
(2) "Portable swimming pool" means a swimming or wading pool not more than six feet in diameter, not to exceed twelve inches in depth when full and not to exceed 200 gallons when full. A permit is not required.

(3) "Residential swimming pool" means any constructed pool which is used, or intended to be used, as a swimming pool in connection with a single-family residence and available only to the family of the householder and his private guests.
(4) "Main outlet" means the outlet(s) at the deep portion of the pool through which the main flow of water leaves the pool when being drained or circulated.
(5) "Main suction" means the line connecting the main outlet to the pump section.
(6) "Vacuum fitting" means the fitting in the wall of the pool which is used as a convenient outlet for connecting the underwater suction cleaning equipment.
(7) "Vacuum piping" means the piping which connects the vacuum fitting to the pump suction.
(8) "Return piping" means the piping which carries the filtered water from the filter to the pool.
(9) "Inlet" means the fitting or opening through which water enters the pool.
(10) "Face piping" means the piping with all valves and fittings which is used to connect the filter system together as a unit.
(11) "Recirculating piping" means the piping from the pool to the filter and return to the pool, through which the water circulates.
(12) "Backwash piping" means the piping which extends from the backwash outlet of the filters to its terminus at the point of disposal.
(13) "Filter" means any material or apparatus by which water is clarified.
(14) "Underdrain" means an appurtenance at the bottom of the filter to assure equal distribution of water through the filter media.
(15) "Filter element" means that part of a filter device which retains the filter media.
(16) "Recirculating skimmer" means a device connected with the pump suction used to skim the pool over a self-adjusting weir and return the water to the pool through the filter.
(17) "Filter media" means the fine material which entraps the suspended particles.
(18) "Filter sand" means a type of filter media.
(19) "Filter rock" means graded rock and gravel used to support filter sand.
(20) "Filter aid" means a diatomite type of filter media.
(21) "Diatomite" (diatomaceous earth) means a type of filter aid.
(22) "Diatomite-type filter" means a filter designed to be used with filter aid.
(23) "Skimmer-filter" means a recirculating skimmer with a filter forming an integral part of the device.
(24) "Filter septum" means that part of the filter element in a diatomite-type filter, upon which a cake of diatomite is deposited.
(25) "Precoat", in a diatomite-type filter, means the initial coating of filter aid placed on the filter-septum at the start of the filter cycle.
(26) "Body feed" means filter aid fed into a diatomite-type filter throughout the filtering cycle.
(27) "Filter cartridge" means a disposable or renewable filter element which employs no filter aid.
(28) "Cartridge filter" means a filter using filter cartridges.
(29) "Design rate" means the average flow rate over the filtration cycle.
(30) "Pool depth" means the distance between the floor of the pool and the maximum operating level when the pool is in use.
(31) "Pool walk" means the finished area around the pool.
(32) "Width and length" shall be determined by actual water dimensions.
(33) "Lifeline anchors" means rings at the transition point.
(34) "Transition point" means the point between the shallow and deep area.
(35) "Pool wall" means that portion of the pool that is vertical or inclined more than forty-five degrees to the vertical from the horizontal.
(36) “Pool floor” means that portion of the pool that is horizontal or inclined less than forty-five degrees to the vertical from the horizontal.
