(A) In the event any portion of the uniform, equipment or personal belongings of any member of the Police Department is damaged while such employee is actually engaged in the performance of his city duties, and as a result of such performance of his duties, the city shall pay for a replacement for such damaged item of uniform, equipment or personal belongings.
(B) If any such employee shall receive compen-sation or reimbursement from any insurance program, private or otherwise, for any such damaged item, then, to the extent of any such other reimbursement or compensation, he shall not also receive any payment from the city under the provisions of this section: and, if he has theretofore received any such payment from the city, he shall reimburse the city therefor.
