The Clerk-Treasurer of the town is designated and appointed ex officio as the fiscal officer of the water utility of the town and all references in statutes or ordinances to such fiscal officer shall be construed as references to the Clerk-Treasurer. In consideration of service in such capacity, a reasonable and equitable portion of the salary otherwise fixed for the Clerk-Treasurer, as determined by the Town Council, may be attributed as an operating cost of the municipal water utility and paid from appropriate funds of the utility rather than from the funds of the civil town.
