(A) Prohibited species.
(1) The following tree species shall not be used for planting along any public right-of-way, street, alley, way or park:
(a) Acer negundo (box elder);
(b) Acer saccarinum (silver maple);
(c) Ailanthus altissima (“tree of heaven” or “stink tree”);
(d) Betul papyrifera (paper birch);
(e) Betula pendul (European white birch);
(f) Catalpa bignoniodes (southern catalpa);
(g) Elaegnus angustifolia (Russian olive);
(h) Ginko biloba - female only (ginko);
(i) Morus/Mulberry species;
(j) Plantanus occidentalis (America planetree or American sycamore);
(k) Populus alba (white poplar);
(l) Populus deltoids (eastern cottonwood);
(m) Populus nigre “Italica” (Lombardy poplar);
(n) Quercus palustris (pin oak);
(o) Salix species (all willows);
(p) Ulmus Americana (Amerian elm); and
(q) Ulmus pumila (Siberian elm).
(2) The tree species listed are prohibited due to such factors as: size; weak wood; shallow roots; lack of disease resistance; pest problems; location suitability; seed or fruit set; or visual appearance.
(3) Other species of trees may at any time and from time to time be excluded by the town.
(B) Recommended species.
(1) The tree species listed in § 100.08 of this chapter shall be those utilized in the placement of trees within the rights-of-way of the town. The tree species listed in § 100.08 of this chapter are recommended for such factors as: size; disease resistance; few pest problems; location suitability; lack of or minimal seed or fruit set; and visual appearance.
(2) Other species of trees may at any time and from time to time be included as recommended species by the town.
