It shall be unlawful for any person to leave a child or other person unable to care for themselves in any unattended vehicle. A police officer discovering this condition shall first attempt to contact the operator of the vehicle when reasonable to do so. Any police officer has the authority to enter the vehicle when he deems it necessary for the protection of the child or other person. Such officer will not be liable for any reasonable damages occurring as a result of action pursuant to this section.
