No bar or tavern shall be allowed to open and operate within 500 feet of any establishment licensed by the North Carolina State Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to sell alcoholic beverages as provided in G.S. Ch. 18B which is in existence and doing business at the time of the proposed opening and operation of any new bar or tavern. Distances shall be determined by straight line measurements from the nearest corner of the proposed establishment to the nearest corner of the existing establishment licensed by the State Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
