§ 10.99 GENERAL PENALTY.
   (A)   Unless otherwise provided in the code, a violation of any provision of the code is a misdemeanor or infraction as provided by G.S. § 14-4 punishable upon conviction by a fine not exceeding $50 or by imprisonment not exceeding 30 days. An ordinance may provide by express statement that the maximum fine, term of imprisonment, or infraction penalty to be imposed for violation is some amount of money or number of days less than the maximum imposed by G.S. § 14-4.
   (B)   Unless otherwise provided in the code, a violation of any provision of the code shall subject the offender to a civil penalty in the amount of $50 to be recovered by the town in a civil action in the nature of debt if the offender does not pay the penalty within ten days after having been cited for violation of the ordinance.
   (C)   The provisions of the code may be enforced by an appropriate equitable remedy issuing from a court of competent jurisdiction.
   (D)   Each day's continuing violation of any provisions of the code shall be a separate and distinct offense.
   (E)   The provisions of the code may be enforced by any one, all, or a combination of the remedies authorized and prescribed by G.S. § 160A-175 and this section.
