§ 74.35 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   “COMPACT PARKING SPACE.” A parking space marked as a compact parking space and intended for use by a small vehicle where the entire vehicle fits within the marked lines of the parking space.
   “METERED PARKING.” Parking that is regulated through the use of parking meters, pay stations, pay by telephone or any other electronic or mechanical means.
   "OPERATOR." Every person who shall operate a vehicle as the owner thereof, or as the agent, employee or by permission of the owner, or who is in actual physical control of a vehicle.
   "PARK" or "PARKING." The standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, upon a street otherwise than temporarily for the purpose of, and while actually engaged in, receiving or discharging passengers or loading or unloading merchandise or in obedience to traffic regulations, signals, or signs or an involuntary stopping of a vehicle by reason of causes beyond the control of the operator of the vehicle.
   “PARKING DISTRICT.” An area encompassing specific streets in which special parking rules and procedures apply.
   "PARKING METER." Any mechanical device or meter, not inconsistent with this subchapter, placed or erected for the regulation of parking by authority of this subchapter, installed in such a manner as to indicate, by proper legend, the legal parking time established by the town and which, when operated, shall at all times indicate the balance of legal parking time and, at the expiration of such period, shall indicate illegal or overtime parking.
   “PARKING METER SPACE.” Any space within a parking meter zone where the available time for parking is regulated either through a parking meter or other means and duly designated for the parking of a single vehicle by lines painted or otherwise durably marked on the curb or on the surface of the street.
   “PARKING METER ZONE.” The portion of any street wherein parking is regulated through the use of parking meters, pay stations, pay by telephone or any other electronic or mechanical means.
   “STREET.” Any public street, avenue, road, alley, highway, lane, path or other public place located in the town and established for the use of vehicles.
   “VEHICLE.” Any device in, upon or by which any person or property is taken or may be transported upon a highway, except a device which is operated upon rails or tracks.
