§ 153.20 DISTRICT SIGN PROVISIONS.
   (A)   Residential and special districts. Multi-family residential complexes having more than six units; principal residential uses J, K, L, M, O, P, S, T, U, V, X and Y as enumerated in Chapter 155; Appendix E; Table 5 Schedule of Use Regulations; and principal nonresidential use shall be permitted no more than two signs of up to 50 square feet in total sign area on each frontage except for § 153.21 (Scoreboards). Freestanding signs placed outside of the required front yard setback area shall not exceed 8.5 feet in height except for § 153.21 (Scoreboards). Freestanding signs placed in any required front yard shall not exceed five feet in height.
   (B)   Commercial, industrial and institutional districts. Signs in commercial, industrial or institutional districts shall be subject to the provisions of the following tables except for scoreboards (see § 153.21 :

   3   The sign height shall not be greater than the sign setback from any abutting property zoned and used for residential purposes.
 
   (C)   Projection of signs over public sidewalks in the B-2 Zoning District. In the B-2 Zoning District awnings, marquees and signs may project over the public sidewalks in accordance with the following criteria:
      (1)   All awnings, marquees, signs, or signboards shall be securely fastened to the building or object to which attached, so that there will be no danger of the same falling or causing damage to persons or property.
      (2)   There shall be 7½ feet clearance maintained between the sidewalk level and the lowest portion of any awning or sign.
      (3)   There shall be 8½ feet clearance maintained between the sidewalk level and the lowest portion of any marquee.
      (4)   Marquees, as defined by State Building Code, shall be constructed in accordance with applicable building codes, and a building permit shall be obtained in addition to the sign permit.
   (D)   Off-premises signs. Off-premises signs are those with a message which is not directly related to the premises on which the sign is located. Off-premises commercial signs shall only be permitted in commercial and industrial districts, and in those parts of the Transition Zone District designated for future commercial or industrial development in the comprehensive guide. Such signs shall be subject to the requirements of this section; in the case of such signs in the Transition Zone District, the standards to be applied shall be the B-3 standard for areas designated for future commercial development, and the industrial standard for areas designated for future industrial development. No more than one off-premises sign or structure with multiple sign faces shall be permitted on a lot or group of lots under common ownership, unless there is a minimum separation distance of 500 feet between each sign or structure with multiple sign faces.
