For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
PAWNBROKER. A person who loans money on deposit or pledge of personal property or other valuable thing, or who deals in the purchasing of personal property or other valuable thing on condition of selling the same back again at a stipulated price, or who loans money secured by a chattel mortgage on personal property, taking possession of the property or any part thereof so mortgaged.
RECEIVE. To purchase, accept for sale on consignment, or take in pawn any secondhand goods.
WHOLESALE MERCHANT or WHOLESALER. A category 50 business under the provisions of the federal Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) manual which engages in the business of making sales to retailers, as defined in M.S. § 297A.01(4), for subsequent resale by the retailer in the regular course of its business.
