Candidates who qualify for employment shall be placed upon an original appointment eligible list for the appropriate class of position, in the rank order of the grades they obtain on the examinations. The rank order of candidates who are allowed veterans' preference shall be based on their augmented ratings. Permanent employees laid off for lack of funds or work shall be placed upon a re-employment eligible list. A probationary employee who is laid off while the original appointment eligible list from which he was appointed is still effective shall be restored to his original place on that list. Eligible lists shall be effective for one year and may be extended for one additional year in the discretion of the Personnel Director.
