141.01 AUXILIARY/RESERVE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
   (a)   There is created within the Village Police Department an Auxiliary Police Unit, the members of which shall be appointed by the Mayor.
   (b)   There is created within the Village Police Department a Reserve Police Unit, the members of which shall be appointed by the Mayor.
   (c)   Auxiliary/Reserve members of the Police Department shall serve so long as the Mayor may direct, or until a resignation submitted by such member, shall be accepted by the Mayor.
   (d)   The members of the Auxiliary/Reserve Police Unit shall be residents of the State of Ohio or an area within thirty minutes driving distance of the Woodville Town Hall. Auxiliary members of the Police Department shall be at least eighteen years of age at the time of appointment and Reserve members shall be at least twenty-one years of age and have State of Ohio Certification. Auxiliary/Reserve members shall abide by such other requirements as provided by the rules and regulations provided in subsection (f) hereof.
   (e)   The Chief of Police shall be the commanding officer of the Auxiliary/Reserve Police Unit and shall have control of the assignment, training and direction of the work of such unit. The Auxiliary/Reserve Police Unit shall have such police powers and shall perform such duties as assigned by the Chief of Police. They will work in a support function and will be assigned such tasks as they may be properly trained for. When a uniform is to be issued to and worn by Auxiliary/Reserve members it will be prescribed by the Chief of Police. The Auxiliary/Reserve members shall obey the chain of command within the Police Department and take orders from all regular appointed members thereof.
   (f)   The Mayor shall prescribe the rules and regulations for the organization, administration, conduct and control of the Auxiliary/Reserve Unit.
   (g)   All service performed and all training attended by members of the Auxiliary/Reserve Police Unit shall be on a voluntary basis. Auxiliary/Reserve Police Officers shall not be compensated for their services.
   (h)   This section is declared by Council as an exercise by the Village of its police powers for the protection of the public peace, health, property, safety and general welfare; and neither the Village nor any agent, nor any representative of the Village nor any individual, firm, partnership, corporation nor the receiver or trustee, nor any agent thereof, who, in good faith, executes any provisions of this section shall be liable for injury or damage sustained to persons or property as a direct or proximate result of such action.
