For the purpose of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning. When not inconsistent with the context, words used in the present time include the future, and words in the singular number include the plural number. The word SHALL is mandatory and MAY is permissive. Words not defined shall be given their common and ordinary meaning. In all cases, terms and restrictions shall correspond directly to the regulations of the Illinois Smoke Detector Act, being 425 ILCS 60, by either meeting or exceeding said Act.
DWELLING UNIT. A room or suite of rooms used for human habitation, including single-family residences as well as each living unit of a multiple-family residence, and each living unit in a mixed group.
OWNER. Any individual, firm, partnership, or corporation who alone or jointly have legal title to any premises.
SMOKE DETECTOR. A smoke detector of the ionization or photoelectric type, which complies with all the rules and regulations of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
TENANT. Any individual, firm, partnership, or corporation who by contract or lease occupy a residence as a dwelling unit.
