The City Treasurer, before entering upon the duties of the office, shall take the oath prescribed by law, and shall execute a bond to the city, in the penal sum not to exceed $3,000,000, but not less than amounts deemed necessary by the City Council, conditioned upon the faithful performance of his or her duties with a corporation licensed to do business in the state as surety. Such bond shall be filed with the City Clerk after approval of the City Council.
