440.07  OPERATION BY MINORS.
   (a)   A parent or legal guardian shall not permit his or her child who is under the age of twelve to operate a snowmobile or ATV without the direct supervision of an adult, except on land owned or under the control of the parent or legal guardian.
   (b)   Beginning January 1, 1973, a person who is at least twelve years of age, but less than sixteen years of age, may operate a snowmobile if:
      (1)   He or she is under the direct supervision of a person who is eighteen (18) years of age or older; or
      (2)   He or she has is in his or her immediate possession a snowmobile safety certificate; or
      (3)   He or she is on land owned or under the control of his or her parent or legal guardian. A person who operates a snowmobile pursuant to Section 440.06 shall present the snowmobile safety certificate to any peace officer on demand.
   (c)   Notwithstanding Section 440.06, an operator who is under twelve years of age shall not cross a highway or street. Beginning January 1, 1973, an operator who is at least twelve years of age, but less than sixteen years of age, may cross a highway or street only if he or she has a valid snowmobile safety certificate in his or her immediate possession.
   (d)   The owner of a snowmobile or ATV shall not permit his or her snowmobile to be operated contrary to this section.
