The Police Chief is authorized to appoint a Deputy Chief upon approval of the Mayor and Village Board. The Police Chief is authorized to discipline any person appointed to the position of Deputy Chief up to and including suspension or discharge, pursuant to established village policies. Any person discharged from the position of Deputy Chief shall revert to his or her permanent rank, if any, in the Police Department as established by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. The Deputy Chief shall have such powers as the Chief shall grant to act in his or her place during his or her absence but in no case shall have powers beyond those granted to the Chief.
